In the tiny village of Old Crow, 80 miles north of the Arctic Circle, a father and son are reunited after a lifetime apart. Stanley Njootli, Jr., treks to the Arctic to reconnect with the traditional Native lifestyle of his father, Stanley Sr., and the Gwitchin people.
Here, in the raw beauty of the Canadian Yukon, Stan Jr. must acclimate to a world without partying and pop culture, while both men must deal with years of distance, resentment, and regret. Together they journey deeper into the Arctic where Senior teaches Junior the skills he needs to survive -- how to shoot a gun, skin a rabbit, make a fire, catch a fish. Out on the land, Junior thrives -- learning, growing, and even enjoying (at times) having a father to rely on or complain about. Rich in stunning footage of the Canadian wilderness and poignant interviews with the Njootli men, ARCTIC SON captures a halting, moving reunion, one that includes the conflicts between Native and Western ways, between tradition and modern life, old and young, nature and technology.
